Covid-19 has brought mankind to a standstill and has forced us to rethink of the way, the world functions. The devastating atrocities caused by this pandemic are compelling us to dig deeper. There are many questions raised about the very nature of its origin, whether it is natural or a man-made Global pandemic. In this situation, more than ever before, there is a dire need to galvanize a global movement against Biological & Chemical Weapons of mass destruction.
We at MITWPU, are inspired by the ‘Seed Thoughts’ of Revered Prof. Dr. Vishwanath Karad-a UNESCO Chair Holder for Human Rights, Peace, Democracy &nTolerance, Hon’ble Managing Trustee MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions, Founder President- MIT World Peace University, and Conceptualiser, Visualiser & Architect of World Peace Dome (World’s Biggest Dome), who says “The Universities & Educational Institutions have a vital role to play in ‘Eradication of Biological & Chemical Weapons of Mass Destruction’, as they present a unique ecosystem of learning and influence.”
MITWPU has been a pioneer in undertaking initiatives that aid in establishing ‘World Peace’. Taking cognizance of the adverse impact of BW & CW, a 4-day International (Online) conference on ‘Eradication of Biological & Chemical Weapons’ is being organized. The conference is aimed at raising a clarion call towards ‘Human Safety’ and to act as a strong platform in advocacy against the existence of BW & CW.
The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) came into effect in 1975, with 183 countries being members. The convention calls for the prohibition of development, production and stockpiling of weapons with origins in any sort of biological material and/or toxins. However, despite the act being in place, it’s not enforced fully. All-powerful nations in the world must come together to put a comprehensive and legally binding protocol having a non-discriminatory verification mechanism to strengthen norms to deal with biological weapons.
The 4-day International (Online) conference attempts to have an adequate representation of experts, scholars and leaders of various countries together with the global youth to ensure safe & sustainable future, by evolving a clear mechanism to end the threat of biowarfare through a socio-politico-legal discourse focussed on curbing research and development of bio-weapons and occurrences of bio-chemical warfare.
As friends of Humanity, we appeal you and your families to join us in this movement – to pursue a world free of all biological and chemical weapons. We request you to Pre-register on www..ebcw2020.com to join the movement from 23rd -26th June 2020, 1400 Hrs to 19.30 Hrs.
